Chinese herbal formulas in pill form have been used for thousands of years. In the traditional method, honey was mixed with powdered herbs in order to keep the powders in round pill shape and also to preserve them for longer storage. They were commonly used for their nourishing properties and for chronic problems; but because of the lack of concentration, the dosage had to be large, making it difficult for the body to digest and absorb them. Nowadays, to improve upon this limitation, a new method is being used in producing these pills without the need to add honey or sugar by using concentrated and sterilized ingredients.
Most of the herbs used in these formulas have been recently harvested from different regions in China, according to where each particular herb grows best; China's heartland is the place where many of these plants thrive. After a careful selection in order to ensure the good quality of the raw materials, the selected herbs are processed according to the traditional method and then mixed together. The processed herbs are pre-mixed and the formulas are prepared by using water (sometimes some alcohol is used for hard-to-extract water insoluble substances) at less than boiling point temperature in order to extract the important components, including the volatile oils. For the pills, the decoction is then concentrated into a paste and mixed with a nominal amount of the original powdered formula and small amount of pure starch in order to shape it into pills. The advantage of this new method is that by having a higher concentration ratio, it is more effective and it requires smaller amounts. Also the raw ingredients are sterilized before mixing them to avoid contamination.
Because these pills are concentrated and also because they are sterilized, no honey, sugar o
r colorings are used. The pills contain soluble ingredients such as organic and inorganic compounds and insoluble ingredients such as proteins and carbohydrates which are nutritious and beneficial to the body. The Bio Essence and Tang Long Herbal Formulas in Pill form have about 3:1 concentration ratio that were made from same factory with different packaging forms. After the herbs have been cooked and concentrated as mentioned before, the decoction is spray-dried at low heat temperature to become dried powder. Bio Essence & Tang Long Chinese Herbal Formulas are selected from traditional herbal formulas used for many centuries and also selected from the successful and effective usage of some experienced Chinese medical doctors and modern research performed in hospitals in mainland China. Bio Essence and Tang Long Brand Chinese Herbal Pill Formulas are made in China by one of the largest pharmaceutical GMP standard manufacturers. The factory is certified by the Australian government as a qualified GMP factory and USA NSF certified cGMP factory from the selection of raw herbs to the final packagingn which include quality control, heavy metal and ontamination tests. The pill formulas also meet the U.S. FDA standard for heavy metals, bacteria and pesticide residues.
